Baked Cinnamon Raisin French Toast

Oh breakfast. The meal I love to loathe.  It's not so much the actual food served at breakfast as it is the effort to wake up in the mornings and feel like cooking anything more than a bowl of cereal.  But, my kids love a treat every now and then and the great thing about this breakfast dish is that you can make most of it the night before - allowing for an easy pop in the oven while I'm still half asleep in my jammies kinda morning!

Ingredients:

1 loaf day old sourdough bread, cubed
Butter for greasing
7 eggs
2 cups milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup raisins

Streusel Topping:

2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup quick cooking oats
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

Place cubed bread into a greased 13X9 inch baking dish. In medium bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, cinnamon, and syrup until blended. Mix in raisins. Pour mixture over bread cubes. Cover dish with foil and refrigerate over night.

Pre Heat oven to 350F.

In a small bowl mix streusel ingredients until forms a crumble but not a dough. Sprinkle over bread. Bake in oven 40 minutes. Serve with maple syrup.

Our Ratings:

Mama F: 10 - This was SOOOO yummy and easy to make in the morning! It may not be the most wholesome dish for every day but it makes for a nice treat!

Daddy F: 8 - Although sweet treats are not his favorite thing he thought it was really tasty and said he would eat it on "special occasions". (Like days ending in y??)

Fuller Kids: 10 - They both devoured this tasty french toast! No chocolate and sugar syrup made for an acceptable sweet!

Lucky the Dog: 7 - Enjoyed the little piece she was given. Was more interested in the bacon we had accompanying the dish!
